Overview:
Itinerary:
Day 1 - Arrival in Kathmandu:
Welcome to Nepal, the roof of the world. Once you’ve landed in Kathmandu you’ll be picked up at the airport and transported to your accommodation. Here you’ll meet your tour leader and host, as well as the rest of your group. Our accommodation will be Hotel Nepalaya.
Once the group has gathered we have the chance of exploring the surrounding areas. We also have the chance of visiting the temples of Swayambhu Mahachaitya or Pashupatinath.
Day 2 - Drive to Chitwan National Park:
After an early breakfast we’ll be driving towards Chitwan national park. The drive will take us about 5 hours. Watch how the landscapes transform from the hills around Nepal’s capital to the green plains in the west. We’ll drive past the rural side of Nepal through forests and river valleys before we’ll reach the thick lowland jungle and grassland of Chitwan.
Our accommodation will be Hotel Jungle Vista. Once we’ve arrived we’ll be accommodated and have lunch. The rest of the day is to explore the surrounding area of our base for the impressions of the area. Later in the evening we’ll have dinner together as we go over the upcoming safari in Chitwan.
Day 3-4 - Safari in Chitwan National Park:
Wake up early for a breakfast and coffee before we head out on safari. We have two full days to explore Chitwan national park. Dense jungle, riverine forests, huge floodplains and large open grasslands make up this national treasure of Nepal. Our main target will be the Greater one-horned rhino. This is the best national park in the country to look for this pre-historic beast which are often seen grazing in the grasslands or enjoying a mud bath near the rivers. Also be on the look out for the Asian elephant, sloth bear, leopard and the Bengal tiger. Look for the super-rear mugger crocodiles and gharials basking along the rivers, and birds soaring above us.
We’ll bring both lunch and coffee with us. For the afternoon’s safari we’ll keep on exploring or follow up on sightings we hade in the morning. We’re flexible and able to decide what we wanna focus on. In the evening we’ll head back to our accommodation for dinner.
Day 5 - Drive from Chitwan to Lumbini:
After breakfast and morning coffee we’ll be saying goodby to Chitwan and start our journey towards Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha. We’ll be arriving in Lumbini and our accommodation Little Buddha Hotel around afternoon. Once settled in we have time to explore. Lumbini is filled with history and culture with its temples, cloisters and the Ashoka pillar. In the evening we’ll have dinner together in this historical place.
Day 6 - Drive to Bardiya National Park:
Wake up for an early breakfast as we’ll start our drive towards Bardiya national park. This is a travel-day as we passes by the country side of Nepal with its farmlands, villages and roadside markets. We’ll reach our accommodations in the late afternoon, but we’ll have lunch along the way and stop for what we want. Once we’ve arrive we’ll settle in at the Bardiya Tiger Resort. Dinner will be served in the evening.
Day 7-10 - Safari in Bardiya national park:
During the next four days we’ll be exploring the kingdom of the Bengal tiger. Bardiya national park contains one of Nepal’s densest tiger populations, as well as being sold for leopards, sloth bears and Swamp deer. Bardiya is one of only two places in Nepal where we could see the blackbuck antelope. With several days dedicated to exploring this remote natural haven we’re aiming to maximize our chances of finding Nepal’s most iconic species. Look for one-horned rhinos and Asian elephants close to the waters, and listen to the alarm calls of prey revealing the big cats stalking between the forests. Bardiya is a true wilderness not visited by many, a place where sightings and encounters feel connecting and authentic.
These four safari days are full-days. After having breakfast at our lodges we’ll be heading out on into the jungles. We’re having coffee breaks and lunch out in the field. We’re flexible in terms of how our schedule will look like, and what we’ll be focusing on. In the evening we’ll be returning back to our lodge for dinners. After this we have the option of exploring and go for leopard spotting using lights after dark
Day 11 - Drive to Lumbini:
Today after breakfast we’ll be heading back to Lumbini. This is another travel-day as we’re expecting to arrive at Little Buddha Hotel in the late afternoon. This day is for us to continue exploring Lumbini before enjoying dinner in the evening.
Day 12 - Birding in Lumbini:
This day is dedicated to bird photography around Lumbini. More than 110 species have been recorder in this area, and the whole day we’ll be exploring for unique and rare species. Among the highlights will be the iconic Sarus crane, the world’s tallest flying bird. Look for species like the greater racket-tailed drongo, Alexandrine parakeet, steppe eagle, Indian roller, crimson sunbird, red-whiskered bulbul and red-vented Bulbul. Be on the look-out for the nilgai, Asia’s largest antelope specie roaming the plains and wetlands of Lumbini.
Day 13 - Lumbini to Shuklagandaki:
Today we’ll leave Lumbini and drive towards Shuklagandaki. This trip drive will take us from the lowland plains towards the river valleys and upwards the mid-hills that starts before the Himalayas. Under way we’ll stop for lunch break and if we wanna take some photos. Our accommodation will be the Bajthala Traditional Homes. The location is set high on a hill overlooking the Pokhara valley and thus provides extensive photographic opportunities. Dinner will be enjoyed together with the mountains of Nepal as our back-drop.
